Academic Background and Early Career
Dr. Abhinandan Punit received his Master of Surgery in Orthopedics (2008-2011) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University, graduating in 2011 with flying colours. He also obtained his DNB Orthopedics degree in the same year. Following this, he worked as a senior resident (2011-2014) and later as an Assistant Lecturer and Consultant (2014-2016) at Goa Medical College, where he was involved in high-volume polytrauma surgeries, complex periarticular fracture reconstructions, and pelvi-acetabular surgeries. He has a passion for teaching and has trained many junior orthopedic surgeons.
International Training and Expertise
- 2014: Dr. Punit underwent advanced surgical training in Sports Medicine and Knee Surgery, including cartilage transfer and regenerative medicine at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute, Bologna, Italy, under the esteemed Professors Maurilio Marcacci and Stefano Zaffagnini, MD.
- 2016: He further specialized in Knee Replacement and Knee Sports Medicine at a FIFA-certified center in Portugal under the world-renowned Professor João Duarte Espregueira-Mendes, MD, PhD.
- 2016-2020: Moving to the UK, Dr. Punit completed long-term fellowships in hip and knee joint replacements, revision joint replacements, robotic joint replacements, and shoulder surgery at the prestigious Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Scotland. During this time, he trained with leading NHS orthopedic surgeons such as Mr. Kapil Kumar, Mr. Kamal Deep, Mr. Stevenson, and Mr. Jason Roberts.
- 2020: Dr. Punit moved to Australia to train under the globally renowned Professor Phong Tran, Head of Department, Western Health, for formal surgical training in Direct Anterior Hip Replacement. He also trained with Professor John O’ Donnell, a pioneer in Hip Arthroscopy.
