What are ACL injuries?
ACL injuries occur commonly among people who perform high-impact sports such as basketball, football, and soccer. According to an American study, most ACL injuries happen without the involvement of another player. These injuries occur mainly when the player twists or pivots. In the US, orthopaedic surgeons perform more than 200,000 ACL reconstructions yearly.
Types of ACL surgery
When the doctor performs the ACL reconstruction in JP Nagar, they put the tendons in their actual place. The main goal is to recover your knee stability and full range of motion. Placing the tendons into your knee is called grafting. There are basically 3 types of grafts used in ACL surgery:
1) Autograft
The orthopedic surgeon takes the tendons from some of your body parts like the knee, hamstring, etc.
2) Allograft
In this grafting, the surgeon uses an artificial implant to replace tendons. In the 20th century, silk and silver fibers were used. As technology advances, doctors use carbon fibres and Teflon for ACL replacement
3) Synthetic Graft
In this grafting, the surgeon uses an artificial implant to replace tendons. In the 20th century, silk and silver fibers were used. As technology advances, doctors use carbon fibres and Teflon for ACL replacement.
